Are all the 2020 fire season contracts set? Or are some yet to be awarded?

Pretty sure all of the type one contracts have been awarded but two's and three's should be and if they haven't will be shortly.

Type 1 solicitation claim awards end of March. So expect end of April maybe. Type 2 cycle was awarded last year. Region 8 cancelled all type 3 bids in December. Only other type 3 bids I know of have already been awarded.

Not really a dumb question....there isn't a Region 7 anymore. It was apparently eliminated in 1965 when they merged the old Eastern and North Central regions.

There's this thing called Google. The Forest Service Website is a plethora of information. Just Google it and expand your knowledge. Here's a map of the different regions in the country partner!

I look at this forum as a conversation amongst aviation people. Like sitting around the crew lounge or in the cockpit on a longer leg. Throw out a topic and have a discussion. Goggle will get you 5000 responses and 4550 of them will be dated, irrelevant or flat out wrong. Who wants to sort through all that crap when you can ask an experienced guy sitting right there?

Looking at a few responses here you get some good info and perhaps a good laugh. Too bad you also have to hear from some tools who can only tell you to google it, or belittle you for not knowing.

There's just no pleasing someone like you is there? You hate goggle do you? If you could be a tool what would you be?

Loved firefighting from helos, S-58T's, S-61's, 205/212's, but went dual rated corporate 20 years ago, not a regret, other than I did not do it sooner.

Good Morning,

Now retired for a few years, I really enjoyed my years in the fire world. I was carded from 1968 untill I retired in 2013.Flew mostly type 2 machines and even enjoyed that shiny mystry meat in the USFS lunches. If you sliced up  an apple, the slices made those sandwiches taste pretty good.

Some of the folks in that world were really great people and I did fly with some great pilots. My last twenty years were with a county aviation unit still involved in fire work. That transition is one that provided a good retirement and should be considered by those with utility experience. I must say that snarky responses to questions like the one posed by the OP do not represent the kind of good people with whom I worked along side for those years.

Stay safe and have fun,

Another Old Guy

For the County gig, did your fire and LE folks get along?

Hi there

I was lucky in that I worked for two. One had an ongoing problem and the other didn't. Those issues are mostly folks who never learned to work as team.

Thanks,
