Having worked around that program, (Life Fright) I wonder  if this internship is going it teach how to cover up incidents and outright accidents with your budies at the FAA.

study on your own when the crew isn't surfing the web with the computer, smile and nod when you listen to war stories, go for sandwiches or designer coffee ( and get stiffed by the stingy crew), insert revisions in all of the aircraft and hospital manuals and perform "other duties" as required. In return you get to wash the aircraft, order supplies and keep inventory records, wear a flight suit, clean body fluids using your newly gained knowledge of how to protect yourself. Plus..bonus get no benefits what-so-ever. Sign me up.

to think that it is OK to not pay people for work that they do, even if they are jumping at the chance to do it. Sure, the interns might find that their experience helps them later, to get a paying job. What it really speaks to is that the company does not feel like or is unable to afford to pay a person to do the same things. You are likley a management type and I am a guy who thinks people should get some money for doing your work.

These people are still in school. With zero experience, they would not otherwise be given an opportunity to learn the business. I would say an internship would offer a lot of flexibilty that you wouldn't have as a paid employee. Since I am a pilot, they would not be able to perform my job. Same for the clinicians. You don't get paid to go to school. This is education.

It's 2 months long and they get credit. Nobody pays them to do the rest of their schoolwork, either. I think they even have to pay?

Minumum wage lawsuit in the future with the labor board ?  But hey.... do it just for a type rating in a cessna jet.  Would you have to take the initial check ride (type) with the feds ?  or could that be done in house ?

What a pathetic industry... when my kid was going to school in computer science, she interned for $4000.00 a month in the summer.

It's very common in many industries. A company will take an inexperienced person, likely in college, and they will work at that company for 8-10 weeks over the summer. They learn the ropes, do menial jobs like filing, running errands, answering the phone, getting coffee, etc. It's a good way for a young, inexperienced person to learn about an industry or company and see if they want to pursue that as a career. And companies can develop a talent pool to choose from and bring in those who can be an asset to that company.

But the most important part of it all is building relationships and networking. You cannot ever over estimate the value of networking and building contacts in any industry. My niece is doing an unpaid internship in the clothing and fashion industry in NY this summer. She doesn't care that she won't get paid for 8 weeks, but the experience and contact list she will build over that time period will be very valuable in 2 years when she graduates from college. It's the way it's done in many industries and is one of the best ways to get your foot in the door.

Kudos to Intermountain for the forward thinking.  The future demand for qualified pilots in all sector of aviation is much larger than the current pipeline.

Great idea getting future aviators exposed of the HEMS industry!

Think of it as planting a fruit tree.  It generally takes an investment of time and nurturing to bear fruit.
