Next time the medcrew opens their mouth about your flying, remind them that they’re running the risk of violating a federal regulation regarding the authority of the PIC. then tell management that you can’t operate safely within the FARs with the current medcrew and that the FAA should be notified. If the company is going to side with the medcrew, then they’re encouraging employees to violate federal regulations. Then involve CAMTS since they stand for “ethical buisness practices” and let them know that your company allows or even encourages ignoring federal regulations.

I love these threads.. They really highlight the underlying insecure ego of the pilot cohort.  

 

You are not all powerful

You do not know everything

You make mistakes

When you make a mistake, there is a high probability that you'll kill everyone

I'm going to speak up if I think you're making a mistake.

 

You can either cling onto this fatal level of arrogance that you posess and eventually kill yourself and everyone in the back, or you can grow the F**K up and act like an adult who's capable of adult conversations without getting butt-hurt and crying about it on justhelicopters.

To imply that any grown adult is incapable of evaluating the weather is laughable..

 

Thankfully, many pilots are grown-ups and don't mind when the other adults in the room say "eh, this weather doesn't seem that great, lets not go".  Even with that, we still have morons like yourself who think they know everything, ignore the med crews concerns, fly into IMC, and kill everyone on board.

In your world, where all med crew would be ignored at all times because "the almighty pilot knows everything" I wonder how many more fatal crashes you idiots would cause each year..

You don't have to fly.  Nobody is implying that you do have to fly.  You can not fly all you want. 

That doesn't mean that you have a clue about weather or aviation because of your frequent flyer miles. 

Some people won't fly on Friday the 13th, or when there is a full moon.  That's there right, but it doesn't indicate any particular skill set.

The skills that you do possess contribute to the third highest cause of death in the U.S.  What are the odds that you're any better at aviation?

By the way, those pilot's that you refer to as "grownups" aren't really considering your wx analysis as valid.  They just want to know whether you want to go or not....the reason why is not relevant.

Really you two. Grow up. The med crew has every right to say “I wont go” if they feel uncomfortable. As a pilot I weigh all input, even from those with no skills whatsoever. What med crew does not have any right to do is to push a pilot to go. That is a ciolation of the regs. That isnt arrogance, thats power granted by 91.3. Weigh all inputs, but make the decision yourself.

NO ONE IS SAYING THAT THE MEDCREW HAS TO FLY IF THEY DON"T WANT TO.

The reason why is not relevant.  The medcrew can say whatever they want, they can push to fly, they can push to not fly, they can stand on one leg and whistle Yankee Doodle Dandy.  It doesn't matter. 

If I want to go, and they do too, we go.  If I want to go, and they don't, we don't go.  If I don't want to go, we don't.  Seems pretty simple to me.

Medical People make mistakes more than pilots, Check the fact below

When you make a mistake, there is a SUPER high probability that you will kill that person

You are 100% correct about the regulations. Then there is the real world you will be fired and trying  to sue, if a lawyer will not take the case on contingency then they don’t think they can win it and good luck finding a lawyer that would take a case like this on contingency. 

 My solution I went and got a utility job and life is just better. 

I worked at Med Trans And I am here to tell you the management  well not only fire you they will do everything in their power to ruin your career.  I would think long and hard before working for this company.  

And for those of you that say you need to learn to get along, the reality is you are the ones empowering the medcrews  behavior by looking the other way to keep your job. 

 Which leads to the toxic unsafe work environment.

Although they are now pushing it in their most recent posts, Roflcopter makes good points. We are certainly not all knowing and I inform my medcrew as much as possible about the wx and all other items from the aviation standpoint and request that they inform me of anything pertinent from a medical standpoint (benz, prolonged bedside time, prolonged extrication, etc) so we are as transparent as possible with each other in the best interest if all going home at the end of the shift. However, they know I am human and the same is true for me of them.

 

This is elemental to what we do...HEMS 101. Man up and accept that we need med crew and they need us. Symbiosis I believe is the word..... if you dont understand this find another facet of the industry. It is ALL of our responsibility to change the terrible accident rate and stop being the laughingstock of aviation. The FAA regulators will appreciate this as well... 

(this post not intended to deprecate the people,decisions, actions, or inactions of the recent SF accident and has unfortunately has been relevant in HEMS / HAA for a long time now)

 Turn the med crew paycheck to a flight hours standard like lots of linemen and power line pilots. Weather turn downs will plummet. I doubt the crash rate will change much since the very high weather mins. don’t seem to slow the crash rate.

Here is what you’re missing. The key is making the med crew believe they are part of the team and you welcome their input, knowing in reality you don’t need it and definitely don’t give a damn wether they are on board or not. I always laugh about CRM. I spent 10 years in EMS and never once needed a med crew to assist in any decision I ever made, and I did the job with proficiency and safety. You can’t even count on these people to close doors properly, the weakest link was always entrusting them to do very simple things.

but that is all a bit much though deploy it as you  see fit though consider the last time an FAA POI was at our base he very much directly encouraged the med crew to make sure they speak up and tell 'that' pilot to land, or turn around, or whatever.

He and I had words and it wasn't long before he realized he had bit off more than he could chew.  Had to literally tell him roughly what you are advocating was going to occur through his FSDO and Washington.  He had some words of correction to the med crew.  

This specific HAA problem of med crews thinking they have authority has been created by the FAA historically not doing the job we expect them to do, although the answer to the problem to them is one to be solved by the operator through input by the Fed.  Reality is hospitals and med people are NOT about to listen to an operator, even if they work directly for them, for the most part.  They are control freaks and that ain't about to change.
