Good discussion on this one.  

I understand the logic in your position.  Less down time equals the ability for the aircraft to produce more revenue for the company.  But MX is generally categorized as a variable or semi-variable operating expense. Although the availability for revenue production is there with minimum downtime, guarantees on producing a billable flight are not.  Unless the MX department is truly billing an entity and receiving payment from an outside source [i.e.: repair services and support, selling parts, professional consulting, etc.] they are not producing revenue for the company.
