Similar to real estate, location, location, location.  Depending on how flexible your spouse is, they may want to be close to family or they enjoy the adventure and are ready to explore new environments.  If you have kids, especially in the high school grades, they have to go through the transition with a social impact.  Throw in COLA with location and that 100k is either super sweet or you may be struggling living in a delapidated single wide.  It was less than ten years ago 100k was tossed around as being awesome almost anywhere you were.  But I've heard from those elected in these high cost of living areas that the economy is doing awesome.  Now we are looking at the 100k as an entry level salary which has both good and bad connotations.
