Depending on the CAD software, when a call gets assigned to the asset, the CAD automatically activates the tones. At a place I worked that got dispatched by the county fire department, once the call info was input into the system, say a wildland fire, the CAD would determine what assets were to respond and the tones would go off for each station. That could easily be 10 or more stations. The dispatcher isn't sitting there and individually toning each one in sequence. For a rescue (motor vehicle crash), it would usually be 2 fire departments, a batallian chief, and our helicopter. It didn't matter if we were flying or if one of the fire departments was at the local grocery store, the CAD just sets off the tones for each station.
