The Army is paying for poor decisions over the past 10-20 years:

Many of the stupid guys stuck around for the long-haul.  The smart ones jumped ship over the past 10 years so there are some legit idiot commanders, senior warrants, and CSMs out there.

Bonuses too little too late (and missed key demographics of who would have benefited from them)

Using the Lakota as a primary training helicopter

Dropping standards of all flight school applicants then allowing them to be forced through training because there's nobody else

The new PT test.. ugh - how frickin stupid!  There were many better alternatives offered by REALLY smart people over the years and THIS is the one they want to implement?  Special equipment required, test takes all day, events that people will only just hurt themselves, can't figure out the standards for age/sex over the course of a 5 year test/implementation schedule... ridiculous!!

The new dress uniform (it's not bad; it's just that the Army is once again dressing up things to cover problems; like the implementation of the black beret or the new grey digital ACU's... all to say "look, we're implementing change; we're making things better!"... right...)

Dropping lifetime pensions and relying on a military version of a 401K (sounds nice on paper but it's NOT a better plan and certainly no incentive to stay for a full 20 year career!)

Changing ADSO for flight school to 10 years (and the ADSO doesn't kick in until the last day of flight school now so at the end of the 18-24 months; not after completing BCS in the 58 where you were signed off as a rated aviator at the 6 month mark). Speaking of that: consider that we used to make competent students that were considered rated aviatiors at the 6 month mark compared to now they finish 18-24 months of training and are then being FEB'd at the unit for being incompetent to fly!!!  So sad
