Forget helicopters. Find a fixed wing flight school and never look back.

If you're learning to fly for recreational purposes, the risk and cost aren't worth it. You (and your friends / family) will be much safer in a plane, and be able to fly far more often. If you really want to be adventurous, get into flying seaplanes / bush planes.

If your goal is to do this professionally, run away. The helicopter industry is a dumpster fire of corporations that pay garbage and don't give a crap about you. Utility, GOM, HAA, international... it all sucks and is only getting worse year after year.
