Can someone explain to me how a 4/3 or 3/4 is actually 8/6? I've heard that argument more than a couple times and it doesn't make sense...

I am on a 3/4 and love it! I have 3 days during the week Tuesday - Thursday, 24 hours off when transition to nights, then 4 nights Friday - Monday. Then have 7 off. If anything with the 24 hours off I actually get one extra day off a hitch. Plus I'm still at home during the day every single weekend. Yeah, ocassionally you get beat up on the night shifts and need a little more sleep during the following day, but I still get most of the afternoon at home. 7 nights in a row? No freaking thank you. 7 Days in a row, getting your butt kicked every single day? Nope. I'll take the 24 hours off in between any day of the year.
