I spend between $400 - $500 in gasoline every month. With an EV, that cost would go away. I don't live in California (why would anyone!)) and my electric bill would have to literally skyrocket to exceed what I'm paying for now in gasoline. Plus, with an EV there are no "associated" costs of operation. Like, ohhh, say your fuel pump or water pump goes bad, or the electic cooling fans behind the radiator, or the radiator itself! Not to mention thermostats that still go bad, or coolant hoses that break and trash the engine when it overheats. Also, no O2 sensors or catalytic converters or muffflers to need replacement. The only "consumable" really is tires (not even brakes thanks to regenerative braking). Thus, in the long run, the cost of operation of an EV is lower overall that that of even a Honda Civic, say. Subtract all of those ancillary costs of operating an ICE vehicle, and the scales tip way in favor of the EV. |
