AAFMAA  

A buddy of mine pointed me to AAFMAA.  If you're former mil then there isn't a better deal around.  Blows USAA out of the water.  Affordable term life to get you through kids getting out of college time and still quite a few years after for your wife's sake before premiums go too high.  By then, your retirement plan should cover your wife for the rest of her life.

Got started with them when I turned 40 or 41 and even got a small term plan for my wife as I know I wouldn't want to work for a while while dealing with grief and taking care of kids at same time.  

Good on you for thinking this way.  Be sure to pass it on and mentor other guys as well.
