totally boring as airline flying can be I totally agree with you.  BTDT in both respects. 

DO NOT MISS THIS BUS!  With a good airline job, however long they remain viable (who knows), an airline employes has #1 - a schedule, and #2 - a life.

Doesn't require more to make a decision.

This stuff happened in @1963 with the airlines needing pilots thus the creation of Florida Tech etc. to create pilot applicants.  Friend was one of the principles on that, and, he got out with what he put in to it, the reality of aviation.  What you invest in it, you get out of it.  So, be an employee, nothing other, YOU will not make any money otherwise.
