Decades ago working as A&P on the Gulf Coast had a 212 with flickering transmission chip light. Never would stay on, just flicker with acft running. Inspected chip plug and found clean. Function check of circuit was good. Ran up acft and immediately had the flickering chip light. Pulled the transmission external filter and found canister approximately half full of brass!!! Magnetic no, but did complete the circuit with contaminated oil flowing across the chip detector. Replaced transmission, oil coolers and flushed all the lines. Never did hear back which bearing cage had failed inside the transmission. |
