Retired EMS pilot here. I had it done about 5 years ago. 18 months later had a badly detached retina. IOL is considered a contributing factor to detached retinas. I was fortunate enough to be at work at a major trauma center when the retina came loose. It was like a blanket being pulled across half my eye. Loss of some field of vision thanks to the repair. My take on it, is postphone the IOL as long as you can muddle through a flight physical. It's not worth the risk for clear vision. |
