I work a 12/12 just for the fire season 6-7 months depending and make what I did for an entire year in EMS. per diem, paid travel to and from, and only have to get myself to an airport that has scheduled flights. that being said, I did the EMS thing, wasn't for me. But I could see how some would enjoy it. My skills dulled real quick and complacency seemed like it could creep up easier than it would in previous jobs. am I home every night? nope. Hotels for me. but I wouldn't move and buy a house for a EMS job anymore anyways. Too many friends moved accross the country only to have their bases closed shortly after. if you have some longline time it's worth trying out the utility side In my opinion. Definitely fun flying that keeps you on your toes. just a random guys opinion!
