The only reason you have the pay you have is because AMC pilots fought for it.  AMC sets the standard with the union every contract rotation and the rest of the industry kind of matches it.  A little better here, a little better their, etc.

I've been with AMC for 25 years.  I remember you had to work 26 days in a month before you got what they said was overtime, which was straight time.  No sick days.  You were not guranteed vacation because you had to find your own coverage within your base because they sure weren't going to pay someone from out of state to cover your shift.  If we got a raise it was about 1% a year.  No set schedule and forced overtime, which you didn't get paid for until after 26 days.

Now, I have time and a half for workover, IF I want it.  I get paid travel and per diem and workover if I want to cover another base across the county for a day or two.  I have a guaranteed pay raise at 3 1/2 percent that I agreed to.  I cannot be turned downed for vacation if I put in for 60 days out.  I have all the sick time I'm every going to need, which I never use anyway.  I can't be forced to do workover except for a few special circumstances.  (Literally, we have on pilot that has not done one workover in years.  At the same base, we have a pilot that has doubled his salary because he works all over the country on his time off). I get 6 percent 401k match.  The rest of the company didn't get their match this year because of the pandemic.  Anyone under the union got their match.  I can go on and on.   I will say the company has adopted a lot of the practices agreed with the union for all their other employees just because it's cleaner and more efficient.

The rest of the industry follows along.  No one stands out as a better place to work for pay and benefits.  Why is that?  Because AMC is the standard, because of the union.  It may not be great, but it's what all the other companies match, because they have to.
