As occupations go, aviation may not be inherently or highly dangerous, but it is callously unforgiving of even tiny mistakes. We occasionally read about professional pilots who die on the job in an accident. These pilots often leave behind a stay-at-home wife with kids who are woefully unprepared for the loss of the main breadwinner of the family. Then a compassionate friend or family member sets up a Gofundme so they can make ends meet by the generosity of others. It's very sad. Seems kind of unfair, doesn't it? I read about another one just this morning.
If you fly for a living and have a family, please, for their sake, do something to ensure that they are taken care of in the event of your untimely demise. You owe that to them, at least. It's kind of, like, your responsibility. And if you cannot manage that, then please sit down with your spouse and have a serious discussion about "what if...?" Nobody...NOBODY expects to die in a helicopter crash. But every year, pilots do. What if one of them was you? |
