The spirit program just pulled a helicopter and airplane out of the area, I assume due to revenue.  Rent instead of buying.

Nobody has actually made IFR actually work well in that area, AMC has tried for 20 years.  Going north you have be 2000 agl or more to talk to anybody on the radio and cell service is extremely unreliable.  Not to mention finding Jet fuel is a real challange. 

Wonderful place to live if you like the midwest northwoods.  It is the northwoods, a long drive to anywhere and when the tourists go home it can be a very lonely place.
