Hey Folks,

Don't look for some mysterious cause here.

The only thing notable about this accident was the fame of the victim. 

It looks to me that the major error was high speed at low altitude in poor visibility.

The pilots last minute decision to transition to instrument flight obviously did not work out.

A previous poster pointed out that slowing down, providing time to make better choices could have prevented the whole thing.

If your only recent instrument experience has been on your last flight review, don't be too sure that you could have done any better than the pilot in this accident.....SLOW DOWN IN POOR VISIBILITY.
