 You've said many times I'm sure. Me too. It's been said many times on this very forum.

 I keep reading and seeing 'experts' in the news talking about how helicopters become unstable at slow speed and the correct couse is just climb, keep the speed up and call ATC for help. I agree with you. Never lose sight of the ground! You will die. I guess all the 'experts' need a few Alaska seasons to discover that. 

 In this case from my LA basin experience he didn't ever get high enough for SoCal Approach, panicked and then blasted back down hoping to see the ground again. He probably did for a second before impact. At 4000 FPM decent
