You are the person responsible for your safety.
and if you let another guy control what you did or what you do, you were/are the problem.
See here is the key point: They pay a lot of people to put out endless streams of bullsh*t-stained paper. Rules and regs and memos and policies and procedures and best practices and...
...the list is endless.
They have forgotten--or, never knew--that when you put out too much bullsh*t paper (and a little goes a very very very long way...), people just stop paying attention to it. More and more regulation just means less and less knowledge of it.
At some point you just have to sit down and have a long think and figure out what is the safe thing to do in every situation. It really is not difficult. But it does take some time and some commitment. Not everybody will do it.
Then, you just do the safe thing in every situation and bingo, no more "accidents."
If the guy threatens to fire you, don't let that make you do what you know is wrong.
If he ends up firing you for doing what is right, well, that's America. You guys are the ones who cheerlead for the system that gives an a**hole or a group of a**holes power over your ability to earn a living--not me.
I guess you have to decide whether you want to guarantee your employment, or your life. Choose wisely.
