For complete, detailed and definitive information on this subject, consult the FAA Aeronautical Information Manual, all of Chapter 4, Air Traffic Control, but especially to Section 2, Radio Communications Phraseology and Technique. Read the Pilot / Controller Glossary in the Appendices.

Example 1:  Assuring ATC knows that you are a friendly bro or brah*

HELICOPTER 727KP: "NorCal Approach, helicopter 727KP, with request, brah."

TRACON: "Brah 727KP, Squawk 0434, say request"

HELICOPTER 727KP: "727KP is a Robinson R44, brah, 5 miles south of Salinas, at, like 1600 feet, request vectors for the practice VOR 31 to Salinas with Kilo.  Thanks brah."

* The FAA is currently updating guidance found in FAA Order 8900.1, changing the boomer slang "bro" to the more millennial-friendly "brah".
