Having flow both 205’s and a few different type ones, I just don’t see the USFS replacing the Bell medium with the Hawk. Just from a cost standpoint, the Hawk generally runs 3X the daily rate of most mediums. Multiply that by 34 bases and the budget they worry about so much just got a lot bigger.
I see it like this; everything from a MD500 to a CH47 are just tools in the tool shed. They should be using the right tool for the job and that’s why there are 3 classes of contracted aircraft. At any rate, it makes for a good question!
