A lot of HAA jobs--that is, Bases and Aircraft--just aren't needed. It's a for-profit business, and as such some of the facilities are in place for the pursuit of possible profit, not some kind of must-have rationale.

Look: Say there's X number of helicopters. That doesn't mean they need or even want 4X pilots. A lot of guys want workover so a Base with 3X pilots might actually be a pretty happy place. Plus there are float pilots who fill in vacancies some of the time. If operators didn't have the ability to live and even prosper and be pretty profitable with vacancies in the theoretical staffing chart, the situation wouldn't exist.

A lot of jobs in America are bullsh*t jobs, look it up, it's a real phenomenon. It just means that if the job went away, nobody would notice. They are jobs that are kept in business for reasons other than some kind of actual need, or making some actual thing, or providing some actual service. Sounds crazy but again, look it up. Stretch your head a little, it's good for the hat business.
