Any government position is generally better than civil, but nothing is for sure. I spent 20 years military and 18 years county government, all flying. Total pensions around 90K per year. As another poster said, it allowed me to do tours and HAA as I desired, not as I needed. But the big plus with government jobs is the medical in retirement. Can't beat it.
There is a downside. Aviation units are costly, especially to small, local governments. They are usually targeted first during times of budget reductions. Also remember, you are always one medical away from a career change, so always have a plan B that doesn't involve actually flying.
