He got a FWD FUEL XFER light on the CAD.   That means the fuel in the main is gettting lower and was not wet any more.  So he turned it off.   He probably got one on the AFT as well.   Now, no fuel was being transered from the main tank in to the feed tanks.    So, the engines sucked the fuel out of the feed tanks until the LOW FUEL warning came on.   He looks down, and see there is still fuel in the main tank and turns on the PRIME pumps.   The PRIME PUMPS don't transfer fuel into the supply tanks.   But, he it probably thinking he's still good since the main tank is showing plenty of fuel.   The supply tanks run out, one just before the other.  But, with an sudden engine failure in a HOGE, he's toast!

If he had flipped on his transfer pumps (not he prime pumps), he would have filled his supplied tanks from the main.

He was not very familiar with the system.
