The company provides(d) all three crew members with goggles and mounts.
Occasionally, a pair would be out for inspection/maintenance, 2 remaining pairs used.
I don't remember (I retired a couple years ago) ever being the solo NVG user. My guess would be that, yes, I departed and arrived on occasion as the only crew flying aided... if the occasion allowed. As I said, I don't remember, so it must not have been an exceptonal event.
If a single pair of goggles were available, I would guess the pilot would use them. I know I would have insisted on using goggles.
Three to go and one to say no was always in effect, goggles or not.
NVG use requires proper training and discretion in operation. They aren't magic, there were situations in which unaided was safer.
