They are absolutely NOT "flight crewmembers".  They are medically trained passengers.  Period.  They bear no responsibility for the safe operation of the aircraft.  They do not go through annual checkrides, They do not have to undergo annual medical physicals, they can take whatever medications they want to, etc, etc, etc....  While many are excellent care providers for those we are tasked to transport, they are still not flight crewmembers.  One can read through the many NTSB accident reports and you'll never see where a nurse or paramedic was a factor in any incident.  That's because their NOT FLIGHT CREWMEMBERS!
