The single most important thing you can do to increase the likelihood that you will make it as an airline pilot is, move to the place you are based. By eliminating the time, trouble, stress and money of commuting, you make the job much, much easier. But, but, people say...the Base is in New York...or Chicago...  well, then, think twice about moving from helicopters to airlines. It really is a lot more work, stress, and professionalism required than is needed to do a helicopter job. If all you want is to bumble through life at the slow lane pace, don’t go to the airlines, stay in helicopters. You’ve been told.
