The rest periods can be in any combination of days.  For example:  CH gives the pilot off Jan 1-13.  The CH has met the rest requirement for that quarter (Jan, Feb, Mar.)  The CH then gives the pilot off  Jun 18-30.  The CH has met the requirement for that quarter (Apr, May, Jun).  However, the CH can work the pilot from Jan 14 to Jun 17 without any days off.  The CH has met the requirement for the first two quarters of the year.  Food for thought.......
