in the HAA industry. Like it or not, the L109 and Unions are the bar set in this industry. Their contract and their bargaining sets a standard in the industry, whether it be good or bad. Those who want too keep the unions out will continue to pay just a little bit more in order to keep the pilots from going union, thought they suffer in employment rights and treatment. These are the top tier companies like Metro and PHI. Others, use this standard to either be just at or slightly below that level like MTC (AEL). This is only the major national programs who can compete on a "national" level based on base numbers and size.

What MOST pilots failt to see is the "total value" of a contract or employee benefits. Because in the end the top tier companies can actually be behind the standard (AMC) unionized company because of things like healthcare costs, built in overtime, 401k, etc. making the end the basically the same for everybody.

I am an anti-union guy for a lot of reasons, but the one that is important is the balance of power between employees and the company and the best way to do that is through an organized effort. Imagine if the major HAA companies pilots joined together and bargained industry standards that brought UP the level of pay AND benefits for the pilots, and didnt just use a base line, but an actual standard. It would force companies to compete with addtional benefits and options and strengthen us all as a collective group RAISING wages and benefits for us all. We just need to band together and "collectively" raise the bar together.
