So, if the union is attempting to argue that the regulations do not allow a pilot to be ground transported (deadheaded) back to the base AFTER the 14th our of duty flying Part 135, well, the FAA has already said it A-OK to do so since he will not be operating an aircraft under Part 135 any longer

IOWs, the FAR's do not support the notion the pilot MUST plan the round-trip back to the base, or be put a hotel as the only exclusive choices.   And it doesn't elminiate the option that a pilot can, after his planned 14th hour of duty, ground transport back to the base, however long it takes (by taxi, by aeroplane, by driving a POV/RentalCar, etc).   

 

The decision is really an economic/labor relations question for the company more than a reglatory one by the FAA!
