it has a surplus of jobs. too many people trying to make money out of too many helicopters. industry desperately needs reform. it can come from only one place, namely, law and government. problem is, government is weakened, paralyzed, and ineffective from forty years of reaganism. business has taken over government, so regulation/reform won't come. anyway, bottom line, there's too many helicopters and too many jobs and the all "require" pilots, but the pilots end up sitting around most of the time. oh and one other aspect of out-of-control business is, that the risk against all these expensive assets is prohibitive and so the underwriter requirements really drive the hiring market, hence guys having to get a couple thou hours before they can be hired. the whole thing is colossal waste. and the cfi/pilot training thing...don't get me started...it's so funny all you reactionaries always calling social security a ponzi scheme but you can't recognize the biggest ponzi scheme of all, the helicopter pilot training and hiring market.
