Doing my ATP and possibly CFI as employer is paying for it all.

Question for all of you guys, I guess CFIs as well:

For many of the tasks or knowledge areas, such as Settling with Power, Retreating Blade Stall, Regulations, Airspace, etc.... What is the difference between Private, Commerical, and ATP level knowledge?

It would seem to me that for something like Settling with Power, you either know it or you don't.  So when you are conducting evaluations at the private, commercial, or ATP level, what are you looking for at each of those grades of pilot certificate?

I understand the maneuvers, such as the autorotation, have standards that change (200' for private, 100' for commerical for target point)...but I'm admittedly confused on how a private vs commercial vs ATP level pilot knowledge levels would be different for things such as airpspace, aerodynamics, etc.

Another way of putting it...why would a private level pilot pass a knowledge element, but fail that element for a commercial despite giving the exact same explanation? How do you spot that difference?
