HR hired you, I didn't. Like you, those people don't have any skin in the game, either. They very likely have different priorities than I would have, when hiring for your position.
I don't expect or desire that you fly every time you complete a critical maintenance procedure, but I do prefer that you appreciate that you might. Especially when you're apparently a maintainer who protests and resists it so. Can't help wondering why? Is it really so much to ask? Are you not on the clock?
I'm sure you are insulted that I would question your competence (actually, I didn't until this subject came up), why I wouldn't simply "trust" you. I wonder, what would I base that trust upon? The nice HR lady's professional assessment of your reliability and technical skills?
