maybe the mechanic doesn't want to "put their life on the line" by flying with that pilot? Not all pilots can fly straight and level let alone turn the fuel valve before start?? However, if a pilot even thinks for a second that his mechanic "will do a better job" by simply flying after maintenance then I think the pilot should be canned on the spot. Now if there is an issue with the mechanic's work then the proper thing to do is NOT fly and write the issue up in the logbook.
