Story for you halfwits. Since you seem to really love DME.
Once upon a time in 2011 these "seasoned expert 20 plus year" 76 pilots wrote up the DME.
I put my test box on it. It passed all the checks.
Then I tuned onto the local VOR VUH and sure enough...no DME.
Then I got online, found the NOTAM talking about how the DME for the KGLS VOR was gonna be out of
service for 2 weeks due to them performing maintenance on the Transmitter.
Printed that off and slipped it into the log book with a big fat COULD NOT DUPLICATE s/o.
You think them idiots with all that experience could have keyed the radio and asked tower if something was up with the station......nah...
Or maybe checked the latest NOTAM...nah.
Or maybe even tune up whitelake, Trinity, Sabine pass?? ...Nah.
We just write $#!t up.
Pretty bad when the Avionics guru has to do his job and your job too.
You're welcome.
