Back in 2009 federal air crash investigators rated HEMS as the most dangerous job in the USA, racking up fatalities faster than loggers and other risky occupations. Have thing got better with advancements in technology and improvements to the fleet? We don't hear much about this now. Has the rating changed?

More precisely, "Continued VFR flight into IFR conditions at night." You'll find that phrase all too often in fatal HAA/HEMS accident reports. |

gaining pounds and losing your time in life is the most dangerous. Go out and do what you like to do. If you like HEMS good for you. If you like utility or whatever else good for you.

Put the best pilot you know into EMS and after a few years or less he will be as mediocre as they come. Lack of flying. |

this is based on hours flown and pilot's experience level. Hard to believe it's more dangerous than flying guys in the wire environment.. |

Media writers aren't really journalist so if they need some thin stats to write some crap they can find it. I'd guess many other less higher profile jobs have more deaths. Roofers, highway workers, linemen, farming types But maybe the high EMS rate also includes death-by-nurse. You know the thousands of people killed by incompetent medicals. |
