I was always a Local 109 fan, but god, you guys were right. Our Local 109 is pathetic and weak! AMC just owned us.

"a union is only as strong as it's members. get involved or quit crying."

Your union reps are sacrificial victims of your weakness. Figure it out, numby- certain pilots are active in organizing a bargaining unit. Then, the leadership of the local are largely those same people. I retired 10 years ago after actively participating in organizing two company's pilots. Those few mootivated pilots willing to put their jobs on the line and do the work to organize their fellow pilots paid dearly for their effort.

Meanwhile, the number of pilots I spoke to about being active in their local whose answer was "I pay my 1%. I don't need to go to meetings, etc.'" consisted of the vast majority. They can't be bothered to attend meetings, even online. Accurately assessing the passivity of the majority, some of the organizers are terminated or otherwise punished.

The bankruptcy was most certainly timed to take advantage of the contract bargaining. They aren't stupid. It was a gamble though as a strike could easily have been the end of the company. Fortunately, a majority of us realized this. I would guess many of the no votes were people that just didn't like being put in that position. I haven't heard one person say what specifically they would change. More money? Forget it. Better benefits? They are already pretty good. One thing about helicopter pilots is that many will vote against their own interests just to prove a point. Pragmatism is not a quality seen in many helicopter pilots.

cash up front and now...that is what persuaded most....though guess what your locked into any more raises stuck at the 3% (after the union takes their 1%)....union or not, you still paying the UNION out of your check every single paycheck...you honestly think the company will give you more than 3-4% for the next 7yrs????? HELLLLZ NO.....you lost all leverage....I wanted to put in there that Veterans get extra OT day on Veterans day...Union response was nothing...

AMC owned the pilots and 109 took the rest. AMC will lose people in the end but.... I've seen back door deals between companies not to hire from the competition. 7 years with 3% a year and AMC will be behind again.

ya choose to describe a union just think what it'd be without 109, and guaranteed it wouldn't be better.  Operators do nothing for employees unless they have to.
