The boss is looking at buying a 2014 AStar and I keep hearing that the 12 year inspection is a costly item. I'm trying to come up with the upcoming cost of big ticket items. Engine is low time. Does anyone know what the ballpark figure is for a 12 year inspection besides the idiotic response of "tree fiddy?" |

Big difference between the two operating rules in th US. Part 91 does not need to comply with Mfg reconditions (overhauls).... Only need to comply with airworthiness limitations.:. |

Too many variables to give a single cost. Shop selection and aircraft condition the two big drivers in cost. But in some cases the cost can go six figures. Has it ever had a 12 year? Regardless as mentioned above if operating Part 91 you are usually money ahead to follow Part 91.409(a) and 43.15 and using specific Airbus inspection items vs adopting a complete factory inspection program. But if factory program is your preference then best to start with a quote from Grand Praire then call other shops for 12 year costs. Good luck. |

It depends... my tech rep told me of one that was routinely used to lift 2500lbs dozens of cycles daily. When they got to the 12 year a third party maintainer found so many cracks, airbus was called to Assess. Airbus pulled the airworthiness cert until they did well over 1,000,000 in repairs. It was nearly a write-off |

The prior "all in one" 144M inspection is now broken up into separate segments (which cover the same inspections scope) so that each segment can now be done separately. You can now start picking away at the 12yr. until 2026 comes up. In total if you were to do it completely all at once it's approx 30 days work for two two men and approx $100k in parts. Dont forget the 15yr. engine calendar overhaul is a factor. |

The Arriel engines no longer have 15 year overhauls, the M01 needs a 15 year calendar reset and the M03 needs a 15 year calendar reset which can be done outside of the overhaul shop. |

Hire someone that knows the model and get a good pre-buy inspection. I would give you two recomendations, either the seller must have the 12 year inspection before the purchase. Or, pro-rate the estimated cost of the inspection and deduct the cost of the inspection from the purchase price. There's a reason why it's usually easy to find 11 year old AS350's for sale. |
