If you fly for a local law enforcement agency, is that considered commercial or GA flying?

It is considered public use.  I don't even think you need a certificate. Just like military pilots. No need for any FAA stuff.

Depends on who owns the aircraft. If it's a commercial operator operating as public use you need a commercial license. If owned by law enforcement differnt story

No-one said logbook...pilot duty log would refer to Part 135 flight/Duty time record...not your flight logbook. Part 135 requires you record all COMMERCIAL FLYING on your flight/duty log. Legal interpretations from the FAA would define commercial flying as flying for which the pilot was compensated...

"Other commercial flying means any nonmilitary flying as a required crewmember, other than in air transportation, for which the crewmember is paid for his or her services" (Martindell and Koepp Legal insterpretations)

Makes your response dumb not the previous post.

Rules we don't need stinkin rules !

But I agree, with; "it depends" on who owns the aircraft (lease back) and also what the police chief says.
