Any of you helicopter pilots out there have a CFI-CFII gold seal? I'm trying to figure out what the gold seal does or what benefit it has? |

In theory it shows people who have signed off at least 10 applicants and that 80% have passed on the first try.
doesnt mean much in the real world. |

Worth it if you're interested in becoming a DPE one day. FAA will choose the person with the most FAA credentials like gold seal and Checkairmen to become a DPE. |

Gotta agree with you the FAA-FSDO doesn't care. You just need to be in the club regardless of your credentials to be a DPE. |

I just got done talking with a FAA inspector from the DFW FSDO. He said there are 19 applicants for DPE in their region ... he said that they're going to select 2.
i asked him how they chose who to pick... he said they start by looking for any errors in their submission and any errors immediately are cause for rejection. then they look for experience and qualifications and then chose the most qualified.

When I was a 1000 hour CFI I hoped it might be a differentiator between me and the other 1000 hour CFI's. In reality, it's an anecdote to talk about it anyone notices. But hey, now if I lose my medical I can teach ground school for airships and hot air balloons! |

I have a Gold Seal. I got it just because I happen to meet the requirements at that time. Can't even win a beer bet with it. |
